The European Urban Initiative is dedicated to fostering sustainable urban development across the European Union. As an instrument of the urban dimension of Cohesion policy, the European Urban Initiative supports cities in developing innovative solutions to address urban challenges relevant to the EU. With a strong commitment to strengthening the urban dimension of EU policies, the European Urban Initiative believes that cities must be actively involved in the design and implementation of policy responses to local challenges.

The European Urban Initiative provides opportunities and an environment for implementing bold urban strategies. These strategies test new solutions, techniques, and planning models, building capacities, and sharing knowledge in sustainable urban development. With a total ERDF budget of EUR 450 million for the programming period 2021-2027, the European Urban Initiative supports cities of all sizes to tackle these challenges and contribute to the sustainable development of the entire European Union and its citizens.
