IKIGAI project

IKIGAI project is spearheading advancements in transportation, logistics, supply chain, and storage, focused on accelerating the adoption of the Physical Internet (PI) and driving the shift towards smart, standardized logistics networks. As an EU-funded innovation project, IKIGAI is dedicated to decarbonized freight transport and logistics by 2050, directly supporting the EU’s Green Deal objectives. Through the creation of standardized, interoperable systems across digital, physical, and operational layers, IKIGAI is facilitating a collaborative and sustainable future for logistics.

At the heart of IKIGAI's mission is the demonstration of five integrated Logistics Innovations (LIs) through real-world pilots across Europe. These innovations, encompassing trustee-led matchmaking, SME support with eFTI compliance, smart urban logistics hubs, blockchain-based carbon emissions reporting, and governance for pooled reusable modular boxes, collectively form a ‘Golden Scale-up Package’ designed for broad industry uptake. IKIGAI’s methodology harmonizes industry efforts with policy and market needs, laying a strong foundation for an EU Partnership on Logistics and bolstering the digitalization and decarbonization of the sector.

Recognizing the transformative power of collaboration, IKIGAI combines the development of a PI Norm, real-life audits, and a sector-wide governance structure, known as the PI Coalition. This holistic approach aims to foster a future of seamless logistics, reducing environmental impact, and driving economic growth across Europe.
