European Gravitational Observatory

The European Gravitational Observatory (EGO) is a leading consortium dedicated to the long-term scientific exploitation of the VIRGO interferometric antenna for gravitational waves (GW) detection. As the largest GW detector in Europe, EGO fosters European collaboration in this rapidly advancing field. Located in Cascina, Pisa, at Via E. Amaldi, 56021, IT, the European Gravitational Observatory is at the forefront of gravitational wave research.

EGO's primary objectives include ensuring the commissioning, operation, maintenance, and upgrades of the VIRGO antenna. Currently in its "Advanced" phase, the Virgo GW detector benefits from collaboration with Dutch, Hungarian, and Polish research institutions. Additionally, EGO manages a cutting-edge computing center for comprehensive data analysis and maintains the site's infrastructure to support ongoing research and development activities crucial for gravitational wave detection.
