SPEAR is dedicated to empowering small-scale farmers and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through innovative research and development. With a focus on enhancing the livelihoods of livestock and poultry farmers in Africa, SPEAR is committed to improving the productivity and quality of local livestock and poultry value chains (LPVCs). This is achieved through rigorous investigation, cutting-edge innovation, and the development of sustainable solutions.

SPEAR's comprehensive approach involves identifying constraints and opportunities for sustainable production and consumption, alongside pioneering innovations such as insect meals as animal feed and the creation of new livestock and poultry-based products with extended shelf life. By integrating value chain analysis with participatory modeling, SPEAR ensures that scientific knowledge is combined with invaluable indigenous and local insights. This inclusive strategy strengthens stakeholders' capacity for informed decision-making and fosters a sense of ownership and successful implementation.

SPEAR is committed to building sustainable business links for various LPVC actors and increasing policy uptake through stakeholder engagement and a virtual learning lab for knowledge exchange.
