The South African Centre for Digital Language Resources (SADiLaR) is dedicated to advancing language technologies and research across the humanities and social sciences. Supported by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), SADiLaR focuses on enabling functions related to all official languages of South Africa. This is achieved through the support of research and development in language-related studies. Located at 11 Hoffman Street, Potchefstroom, North-West 2531, ZA, SADiLaR is committed to enhancing the digital landscape for language resources.
SADiLaR facilitates the creation, management, and distribution of digital language resources and applicable software, ensuring they are freely accessible for research purposes via the Language Resource Catalogue. As a multi-partner entity hosted by the North-West University (NWU), SADiLaR operates through a network of linked nodes, including esteemed institutions such as the University of Pretoria, the University of South Africa, and the CSIR. The Centre actively runs a digitisation programme focused on creating digital text, speech, and multi-modal resources for South African languages, alongside developing natural language processing software tools.
