SUNRISE-6G is at the forefront of revolutionizing research services, with a dedicated focus on establishing and expanding an EU-wide experimental infrastructure for 6G technology. Headquartered in Athens, SUNRISE-6G operates as a key player in the next generation of wireless communication. The project, initiated on January 1, 2024, is designed to integrate private and public infrastructures under a massively scalable internet-like architecture. SUNRISE-6G aspires to create a federation of 6G test infrastructures in a pan-European facility that will support converged Testing as a Service (TaaS) workflows and tools. A unified catalogue of 6G enablers will be publicly accessible by experimenters, facilitating cross-domain vertical application onboarding. Experimentation and vertical application onboarding are offered via a Tenant Web Portal, acting as a single-entry point to the facility and serving end users such as experimenters, vertical developers, infrastructure owners, and 6G component manufacturers.

As one of the 27 new research, innovation, and trial projects funded by the EC under the 2nd phase of the 6G SNS JU programme, SUNRISE-6G addresses the challenge of providing superior performance via ground-breaking access technologies. These include joint communication and sensing, cell-free, Radio Intelligent Surfaces, and ubiquitous wireless intelligence. SUNRISE-6G aims to build first-class 6G technology capacities across Europe and strongly contribute to standardization efforts.
