Iranian Fisheries Research Organization

The Iranian Fisheries Research Organization (IFRO) is a leading institution dedicated to fisheries research and applied studies within the I.R. of Iran. With a rich history dating back to 1918, when the Iran Ichthyology Laboratory was established in Bandar Anzali, Guilan province, IFRO has been at the forefront of understanding and developing Iran's aquatic resources.

IFRO's extensive activities cover the territorial waters of the north, south, and inland waters of Iran. The organization's research in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea began in 1936 with fish species identification. This work continued with stock assessment projects and the establishment of the Technical-Research Institute of Marine Fisheries in 1966 in southern Iran, marking a significant milestone in marine research.

Since 2003, the Iranian Fisheries Research Organization has been affiliated with the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO) of the Jihad-e-Agriculture Ministry. IFRO continues to play a crucial role in the sustainable management and development of fisheries in Iran.
