GUESS-WHy project

GUESS-WHy project is dedicated to advancing the sustainability and safety of fuel cell and hydrogen (FCH) systems through the promotion and implementation of the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) methodology. The project focuses on developing and publishing comprehensive SSbD guidelines tailored for various FCH systems across different technology readiness levels (TRL) within the hydrogen value chain, covering production, storage, and utilization. GUESS-WHy is committed to fostering innovation and best practices in the industry.

GUESS-WHy project's guidelines provide thorough impact assessments, recommendations, and product concepts designed to enhance safety and sustainability throughout the entire life cycle of FCH systems. By integrating inputs from prior projects, stakeholders, and extensive literature, GUESS-WHy follows a standardized process that includes product definition, initial impact assessment, idea generation, and rigorous scenario and benchmark analysis. This approach ensures that the guidelines are both practical and effective in driving positive change.

The collaborative consortium behind GUESS-WHy comprises universities, research centers, experts in safety and sustainability assessments, and private companies specializing in the design and production of FCH systems. Supported by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership and co-funded by the European Union, GUESS-WHy aims to disseminate and exploit its findings to regulatory bodies and industrial stakeholders, promoting the widespread adoption of its guidelines.
