Genome of Europe

Genome of Europe is a pioneering initiative focused on mapping the genetic diversity across Europe, bringing together 49 partners from 27 countries. The primary goal of Genome of Europe is to establish a comprehensive pan-European reference genome database consisting of at least 100,000 genomes. This ambitious project is the largest EU-funded initiative in population genomics, backed by €45 million in funding, including €20 million from the Digital Europe Programme.

Genome of Europe integrates genomic data into Europe’s Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI), working towards the 1+ Million Genome Initiative. This integration ensures interoperability and long-term impacts on research and healthcare. The project’s comprehensive genomic database serves as a valuable resource for researchers, healthcare professionals, and policymakers, driving advancements in personalized medicine and enhancing public health strategies.
