Southern Communities Initiative (SCI)

Southern Communities Initiative (SCI) is dedicated to driving racial justice and expanding economic opportunities across six key U.S. cities. Focusing on communities that are home to over half of all Black Americans, Southern Communities Initiative is committed to fostering sustainable and locally-led initiatives.

Located primarily in Atlanta, GA, but also operating in Charlotte, NC; Birmingham, AL; Memphis, TN; Houston, TX; and New Orleans, LA, Southern Communities Initiative partners with community leaders, corporations, and philanthropic organizations to implement impactful measures. These efforts are designed to improve community resources and broaden opportunities for residents.

Southern Communities Initiative concentrates on four critical racial equity priorities: promoting minority business enterprise entrepreneurship and supplier diversity, enhancing access to capital through the capillary banking system, strengthening Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and workforce development, and bridging the digital divide.
