The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was originally founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974. The goal was to form a national organization of professional engineers who could act as role models. Networking was a key element in its foundation. SHPE soon established student chapters, expanding its reach nationally and internationally.
