Established in 2011, Just Zilch has grown into New Zealand’s longest-running free store, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to kaitiakitanga and resourcefulness. Over the years, more than 471,441 individuals have benefited from their services, facilitated by a dedicated team of over 100 volunteers.

Just Zilch’s impactful work extends far beyond providing food; it actively diverts waste from landfills, removing over 6.457 million food items – equivalent to more than 2,260 tonnes – from the waste stream. With an average weekly giveaway of approximately $85,000 worth of food, the organization supports an estimated 700-800 people daily through a network of non-government organizations and community groups spanning from Otaki to Rotorua and beyond. This vital service relies on the generous support of food producers, logistics companies, retailers, and the local hospitality industry.
