Avani Kumaon is dedicated to creating sustainable livelihoods and disseminating appropriate technology throughout the Himalayas. Since its establishment as the Kumaon chapter of the Barefoot College Tilonia in 1996, Avani Kumaon has been committed to serving the earth and its people. Operating from its primary address in Berinag, IN, the organization focuses on empowering women, managing natural resources, and respecting traditional knowledge.

Avani Kumaon works extensively in 108 villages, with activities centered on livelihood generation through the revival of traditional crafts, implementation of appropriate technologies, and promotion of farm-based activities. The organization’s five-acre campus serves as the hub for coordinating these vital initiatives across multiple field centers. Avani Kumaon strives to contribute to the well-being of remote communities by providing access to essential livelihoods and services.
