The Institute of International Affairs at the University of Iceland (IIA) is dedicated to producing high-quality research and information on international relations, particularly in areas relevant to Icelandic foreign policy. As a leading research institute, IIA plays a vital role in providing education, promoting in-depth research, and executing impactful service projects within the broad field of international relations. Located at Aragata 9, Reykjavík, 102, IS, the Institute strives to meet both academic and professional needs while fostering a general discussion on international affairs topics.

IIA achieves its mission by planning and conducting research on various subjects and hosting numerous conferences, seminars, and lectures. Since its establishment in 1990 within the University of Iceland's School of Social Sciences, the Institute has become a prominent forum for dialogue between the academic community, the private sector, and public service organizations involved in international relations. The Institute of International Affairs houses three distinguished research centers: The Centre for Small State Studies (CSSS), The Centre for Arctic Studies (CAS), and Höfði Reykjavík Peace Centre.

With over one hundred scholars participating across IIA, CAS, CSSS, and Höfði Reykjavík Peace Centre, the Institute fosters strong ties with numerous foreign research bodies.
