The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is dedicated to managing and conserving the natural and cultural resources of Texas. With a commitment to providing exceptional hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation opportunities, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department ensures the use and enjoyment of these resources for both present and future generations. TPWD has evolved from its inception in 1895 as the Fish & Oyster Commission, later becoming the Texas Game & Fish Commission, and ultimately merging with the State Parks Board in 1963 to form the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.

Operating across a wide range of divisions, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department conducts annual population surveys of 1,200 species and assists in developing wildlife management plans for over 30 million acres of private lands. TPWD's Texas Outdoor Family Program hosts workshops at State Parks, offering hands-on experience in learning basic outdoor skills, with all equipment provided. Texas Game Wardens play a crucial role in enforcing the TPWD code, regulations, the Texas Penal Code, and statutes related to hazardous materials.
