Sea Grant has been dedicated to putting science to work for America's coastal and Great Lakes communities for over 50 years. With a mission to enhance the practical use and conservation of coastal, marine, and Great Lakes resources, Sea Grant strives to create a sustainable economy and environment. Community and economic resilience, along with the responsible use of America’s coastal, ocean, and Great Lakes resources, are central to Sea Grant’s core values.

As an official NOAA program office, Sea Grant operates through a network of 34 programs across the coastal US States and territories. This extensive network carries out its mission through targeted research, extension, and education activities. Sea Grant focuses on key areas such as resilience, aquaculture, healthy coastal ecosystems, fisheries, workforce development, environmental literacy, coastal hazards, and sustainability.
