Making material change.
PackUK is at the forefront of transformative change within the UK's packaging sector. As the Scheme Administrator for Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), PackUK is dedicated to shifting the financial burden of household packaging waste management from taxpayers and local authorities to the businesses that produce and utilize the packaging, effectively embodying the 'polluter pays' principle.
This initiative by PackUK is set to drive significant investment into local recycling services. In conjunction with Simpler Recycling in England and the Deposit Return Scheme for drinks containers, PackUK’s packaging reforms are expected to catalyze an estimated £10 billion investment in recycling infrastructure across the UK over the next decade, potentially creating up to 25,000 new jobs in England alone. PackUK is instrumental in setting pEPR fees, collecting these fees from obligated producers, and distributing packaging waste disposal payments to local authorities in exchange for the provision of efficient and effective collection and recycling services. PackUK is committed to delivering a scheme that represents value for money for both producers and the public. The organization also spearheads public communications and information campaigns aimed at promoting responsible packaging waste disposal practices and preventing litter.
Operating as a function hosted by Defra, PackUK serves all four UK nations and is known as PecynUK in Wales. PackUK is committed to continuing collaboration with packaging producers to explore avenues for enhancing the role of businesses in the delivery of pEPR, including the appointment of a new Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO). The implementation of the pEPR scheme marks a vital advancement towards establishing a circular economy, modernizing the UK's approach to packaging and packaging waste, and adopting proven international best practices. Together, the packaging reforms led by PackUK will encourage investment in recycling infrastructure, generate green jobs, and play a crucial role in achieving Net Zero goals. We invite the management team at PackUK to create a customized and exclusive company showcase and product listing on our platform to further highlight their contributions.
