MedPAN

MedPAN is dedicated to fostering the establishment, operation, and sustainability of a robust Mediterranean network of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Since 1990, MedPAN has united managers of MPAs across the Mediterranean, providing essential support for their management activities. Officially established as an association in late 2008, MedPAN is committed to promoting a connected and ecologically representative network. Located at 58, quai du Port, Marseille, 13002, FR, MedPAN operates within the framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Barcelona Convention, and various European policies.

MedPAN’s mission focuses on reducing the current rate of marine biodiversity loss through effective management and collaboration. The network includes nearly 100 organizations throughout the Mediterranean basin and is actively expanding. MedPAN collaborates with strategic partners such as the WWF, the SPA/RAC of the United Nations Environment Programme/Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP), IUCN Med, and the French Marine Protected Areas Agency. MedPAN’s efforts are structured around three main axes, ensuring it remains a vital resource for knowledge, information, and effective management of Mediterranean MPAs.

MedPAN continues to reinforce network activities, enhance interactivity among members, and build capacity for managing MPAs effectively in conjunction with local stakeholders. The organization is also focused on consolidating sustainability, visibility, governance, and resources.
