African Wildlife Foundation

The African Wildlife Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that wildlife and wild lands thrive across modern Africa. Founded in 1961, the African Wildlife Foundation partners with the people of Africa to ensure the continent's wildlife and wild lands endure forever.

From its inception during the African independence movement, the African Wildlife Foundation has been instrumental in supporting newly independent African nations in conserving their wildlife. The organization initially focused on training and educating African conservation professionals, helping to establish the College of African Wildlife Management and sponsoring numerous African scholars.

With over 50 years of experience, the African Wildlife Foundation continues to be a key player in African conservation and sustainable development. The foundation defines large conservation landscapes vital for securing the future of Africa’s wildlife, employing an integrated approach that includes land use planning, education, capacity building, and the development of conservation enterprises to improve livelihoods.
