Empowering Future Leaders through High Performance Computing Education
The CHPC Student Cluster Competition is dedicated to empowering future leaders through high-performance computing (HPC) education. As a key initiative of the Centre for High-Performance Computing (CHPC), a division of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the competition annually hosts a Human Capital Development (HCD) program. This program is designed for undergraduate students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields at South African universities. Participants engage in an intensive week of training during the winter vacation, focusing on various aspects of high-performance computing.
The CHPC Student Cluster Competition provides students with remote computing resources, enabling them to develop practical skills and knowledge. Following the initial training round, ten qualifying teams, each consisting of four students and one mentor, advance to the National Integrated Cyber Infrastructure Systems (NICIS) CHPC’s Annual National Conference. This event features high-performance computer equipment sponsored by various vendors and sponsors, offering students a valuable platform to showcase their abilities.
Winning the national competition earns the team sponsorship and support from the CHPC to participate in the International Student Cluster Competition at the International Super Computing Conference in Hamburg, Germany. This global event provides an opportunity for the CHPC Student Cluster Competition team to compete against peers from around the world. We invite the management team to create a customized and exclusive company showcase and product listing on our platform to further enhance visibility and engagement.
