ALTE

ALTE is a leading association dedicated to promoting excellence and fairness in language assessment across Europe and beyond. Founded in 1989, ALTE brings together language test providers to ensure the accurate evaluation of linguistic abilities. The organization is committed to advancing the field through various initiatives, including organizing courses and conferences focused on critical aspects of language assessment and operating a rigorous quality auditing system for European language examinations.

Based in Cambridge, with its primary address at Shaftsbury Road, ALTE boasts a diverse membership comprising 33 Full Member Organizations representing 25 European languages, alongside 68 Associate Members, 15 Individual Expert Members, and over 800 Individual Affiliates worldwide. As a non-profit organization holding Participatory Status as an NGO with the Council of Europe, ALTE is deeply invested in the continuous improvement and standardization of language testing practices.
