GRACE Gorillas

GRACE Gorillas is dedicated to ensuring a future for gorillas, built by Congolese communities. Located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) near the Tayna Nature Reserve, GRACE Gorillas operates the world’s only sanctuary for rescued Grauer’s gorillas, a critically endangered subspecies found only in eastern DR Congo. With a commitment to rewilding Grauer’s gorillas, GRACE Gorillas pioneers innovative approaches to releasing gorillas back into their natural habitat.

GRACE Gorillas is also deeply involved in protecting vital forest habitats, actively working to conserve 500,000 acres of remote primary tropical forest, a key habitat for Grauer’s gorillas. Operating primarily from its headquarters near Butembo, North Kivu, CD, with additional offices at PO Box 504 Niwot, CO 80544, US, and Goma, North Kivu, CD, the organization is expanding its conservation efforts through community-led initiatives, focusing on sustainable solutions and biodiversity monitoring. These efforts aim to foster a harmonious coexistence between local populations and the region's rich wildlife.

GRACE Gorillas practices community-led conservation, implementing locally-designed solutions, conservation education, sustainable livelihood and development projects, and biodiversity monitoring to foster peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife.
