Since its inception in 2020, Conversation Over Borders has been committed to bringing people together, particularly during times of isolation, by connecting displaced individuals with the wider community. The organization’s core mission is to facilitate meaningful human connections, alleviate social isolation, and enhance confidence in spoken English, ultimately ensuring that everyone has equal opportunities to thrive in the UK.

Conversation Over Borders achieves its mission through several impactful programs. The flagship English & Befriending Programme pairs people seeking asylum with UK residents for one-on-one interactions, promoting friendship and English language practice. With over 15,000 conversation classes facilitated since 2020, this program has proven to be a vital resource. Additionally, the Wellbeing Programme offers online peer-to-peer mental health support groups and counselling in multiple languages, including English, Farsi, Ukrainian, and Arabic. The Digital Inclusion Programme addresses digital exclusion by repairing and redistributing donated devices, providing internet access, and offering digital training to refugees and asylum seekers. Furthermore, Conversation Over Borders amplifies the voices and stories of displaced people through various media, advocating for a more accepting world.
