Ling Tan

Ling Tan is an award-winning designer, artist, and creative technologist renowned for innovative work at the intersection of social engagement, urban data science, and environmental politics. Trained as an architect, Ling Tan challenges conventional interactions with built environments, leveraging technology to foster dialogue and action. The work emphasizes citizen participation and collective agency, collaborating with diverse communities worldwide on participatory and technological initiatives addressing crucial urban issues, including climate change, public safety, air quality, and gender and racial equity.

Ling Tan co-founded HAQUE TAN, a design studio that merges the scale of architecture with artistic ingenuity and technological innovation to create more democratic, inclusive, and culturally-driven spaces. Expertise spans architecture, design, data science, and social policy. Awards include the STRP Act Award 2024 and Seoul Design Finalist Award 2023, along with multiple Asia Digital Art Finalist Awards in Fukuoka and S+T+ARTS Prize Nominations. Projects range from interactive installations and performances to architectural-scale interventions, empowering communities to understand their environments, express opinions playfully, and address pressing issues collectively.
